In both the worlds of mental health and our broader society, the impact of autism spectrum disorder on individual relationships, school and work settings, and overall mental health is becoming more clear and openly discussed. Additionally, our understanding of the autism spectrum and the way it presents itself has changed and expanded over time.

Assessing for autism can be part of our broader assessment looking at a child's overall needs, identifying cases where autism is present alongside a mood/anxiety disorder or a learning disability, and presenting recommendations for paths forward.
